Interfacial Manipulations of Polymers and Supramolecules toward Unique Assemblies

About the Speaker

Dr. Huie ZHU received her PhD degree from Department of Applied Chemistry, Tohoku University in Sep. 2014 under the supervision of Prof. Tokuji Miyashita and Prof. Masaya Mitsuishi. After a short-term postdoctoral research, she has been appointed as an assistant professor in Tohoku University since March 2015.

“Interfacial science impacts on our lives in diverse and surprising ways. Without it, we would face bubble bath without the bubbles, detergents which dont clean, cappuccinos without the froth. It has also fuelled some of the most ground-breaking and thought-provoking advances in research in recent times, from biosciences to nanotechnology.”(Interfacial Science: An Introduction, G. Barnes and I. Gentle, 2011). Manipulations of functional polymers and supramoleculesat interfaces are interesting but remains challenging because of the difficulty of controlling nanometer-scale organization at room temperature. Dr. Zhu developed a method for preparing monolayer of ferroelectric polymers with sub-2 nm precision which has led to a significant progress to electronics and spin-valves. Facing to scientific and industrial challenges, her present researches also focus on design and synthesis of novel amphiphilic and/or biomimetic supramolecular materials, their spontaneously interfacial assembling and promising applications as Raman sensors, wet adhesives, heavy metal absorbents, and so forth.
