Professor Chen is currently a Distinguished Professor and Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study, Shenzhen University, and Director of the Institute for Innovative Development of Food Industry, Shenzhen University. He also serves as Director of Key Laboratory of Marine Microbiome Engineering of Shenzhen Municipality. Professor Chen is an Honorary Professor of the University of Hong Kong and the University of Queensland.
Professor Chen is a Cheung Kong Professor. He had been a Chair Professor at Peking University, and served as Associate Dean of the College of Engineering at Peking University and Director of the Institute for Food & Bioresource Engineering at Peking University, and Director of Singapore-Peking University Low Carbon Research Centre.. Before joining Peking University in 2011, he was a Full Professor and Acting Director of the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Hong Kong.
