The appointment ceremony for Prof. Steven F. Chen was held at Room 201 of Office Building on March 6, 2018, attended by Mr. Zhigang Fan, duputy secretary of Party Committee of SZU, Mr. Jifeng Dai, minister of Organization United Front Work Department of SZU, Mr. Hiayan Ming, director of Discipline Establishment and Development Office of SZU, Prof. Steven F. Chen newly-appointed Dean of IAS and the faculty of IAS. Mr. Hiayan Ming hosted the meeting.
Jifeng Dai firstly delivered the appointment document for Prof. Chen and introduced Pro. Chen’s basic information. Prof. Chen graduated from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Queensland in Australia with a Ph.D. degree of biochemical engineering in 1993. He is the tenured professor at Peking University, the honorary professor at the University of Hong Kong and the University of Queensland in Australia. He was awarded the Chang Jiang Scholars from Ministry of Education, the fellow by "American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE)", the member of "Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)", and the academician of "International Academy of Food Science and Technology (IAFoST)" and "International Academy of Sciences for Europe and Asia (IEAS)". The researches that Prof. Chen focuses on include: microalgae biological resources and bioenergy, bioengineering and functional foods. On March 5, 2018, Prof. Chen was appointed as the Dean of IAS, Shenzhen University.
Next, Prof. Chen expressed thanks to the leaders and colleagues and believed that with the guidance of SZU, IAS would be a featured and famous institute in the world under joint endeavours from the faculty.
Secretary Zhigang Fan, on behalf of SZU, thanked Prof. Charles C. Han for his efforts to IAS and welcomed Prof. Chen. Secretary Fan raised hopes of IAS and also believed IAS would be better under the leadership of Prof. Chen.
