The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of Shenzhen University held an unveiling ceremony for the Psychological Counseling Station in Room 103 of Huiyuan Building at 15:30 pm on December 23, 2019. Professor Feng Chen, dean of the IAS, Doctor Yang Wei, deputy dean of the IAS, and Wenze Ma, deputy director of the Student Department of Shenzhen University, Hong Zhou, director of the Psychological Counseling Center, were invited to attend this ceremony and it was hosted by Doctor Yang Wei.

In the beginning, Dean Feng Chen showed a warm welcome to the teachers at present and sincerely thanked the Student Department and the Psychological Counseling Center for their support for the psychological work of IAS. Dean Feng Chen said that the IAS has attached great importance to the psychological health of students and continued to protect the students' physical and mental health. Students are supposed to hold a positive and peaceful attitude in daily life and meet the challenges bravely. The institute will keep on constructing the psychological counseling stations well.

Then, Doctor Wei made a brief introduction about the current situation of the psychological counseling station’s constructing. She said the IAS has prepared a lot for it, such as making related rules and regulations, starting some trainings, etc. After moving into the new IAS building, the institute will set up professional psychological counseling room, sand table room and student activity room.

Later, Wenze Ma, the deputy director of the Student Department, congratulated IAS on the establishment of the psychological counseling station and highly appreciated the IAS’s psychological work. He said he would fully support the construction of the IAS psychological counseling station in the future and gave some advice based on his past working experience, such as establishing the working mechanism of home-school linkage, holding the meeting of students’ parents, collecting students' psychological information in various ways, and holding psychological quality training and salon for teachers and staffs.

Hong Zhou, director of the Psychological Counseling Center, analyzed the position of the psychological counseling station. She said it is an extension of the work of the school psychological counseling center and the institute should make full use of it to do a good job in publicity and education of mental health. At the same time, she suggested that every institute or colleges could provide general elective courses in psychology to improve students' psychological quality.

Finally, Doctor Wei announced the unveiling ceremony came to an end and the IAS would continue to work on mental health education, publicity and counselling by using the psychological counseling station.
