Rational Design and Synthesis of Nanoporous Materials for Clean Energy Applications
Dr. Lu Weigang, Ph.D.
Sun Yat–sen University
About the speaker
Dr. Lu received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at Sun Yat–sen University in 2002. After independent research at Sun Yat-sen University (2002-2005) and a visiting-scholar stint at the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology (2005-2008), he joined Prof. Hong-Cai Zhou’s group at Texas A&M University. Since 2010, he has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed research papers on porous materials with over 1000 citations.
Talk Introduction
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and porous organic polymers (POPs) have garnered a significant amount of attention because of their tunable pore size and chemical environment. Numerous MOF/POP materials have been identified to exhibit exceptional porosity and tantalizing potential for gas storage/separation applications. In this talk, I will introduce these two advanced porous materials and our recent progress in two aspects. One is aiming for high surface area through rational design and their gas storage applications; the other is pore surface functionalization for efficient carbon capture.
