About the speaker
Dr. Chen received Bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Harbin Engineering University in 2007.7 and Ph.D at Hokkaido University in 2012.9. He then moved to ETH Zürich (Switzerland) and worked as a postdoc. with Prof. Schlüter during 2012.11-2013.11. He has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at Hokkaido University since 2013.12.
Talk Introduction
Group transfer polymerization (GTP) as a living polymerization procedure has a 32-year history since its discovery in 1983. It was initially developed to settle the industrial issue of super-low temperature required by the anionic polymerization of acrylic monomers. GTP had experienced a booming development period during 1980-1990s and been a minor studied field during 1990s-2007 due to the rapid development of living radical polymerizations in 1990s. However, the use of organocatalysts in this field since 2007 has been making significant improvements in the living characteristics of the polymerization from the very viewpoints for synthesizing structurally well-defined acrylic polymers and constructing defect-free polymer architectures. In this talk, the speaker will introduce the advanced GTPs of acrylate monomers using acidic organocatalysts to provide our colleagues a perspicuous overview on the recent progress in this field.
