Long-subchain Hyperbranched Polymers: From Model Design to Solution Property

Dr. Lianwei Li

Research Professor, Department of Physical Chemistry, University of Science and Technology of China

About the Speaker

Lianwei Li obtained his PhD in 2014 under the supervision of Professor Chi Wu at The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). He spent additional three years for his postdoctoral research in United States (University of Chicago) under the supervision of Professor Luping Yu. In 2017, he joined the Department of Physical Chemistry at USTC as a research professor and started his independent academic career.

Talk Information

Long-subchain hyperbranched polymers (LHPs) refer to the type of hyperbranched polymers(HPs) with long linear segments between neighbouring branching points. The presence of long branched sub-chains can decrease the viscosity of LHPs solution or melt and increase the corresponding processibility without significantly scarifying the mechanical properties of LHPs materials, which makes LHPs materials more attractive for industrial application compared with their short-subchain hyperbranched analogues. In this talk, we will focus on the discussion of the mode design and solution property of LHPs with controlled/uniform branching sub-chains. More specifically, we will discuss how the slight change of macromonomer structure affects the polymerization process, internal branching pattern and fundamental property (size and intrinsic viscosity) of resultant hyperbranched polymers. Our results clearly demonstrate that the length distribution and configuration pattern of internal branching sub-chains are the determining factors influencing the various properties of hyperbranched polymers.
