Talk Abstract:
The coastal zone is the transition zone between sea and land and also the most active area of human activities. Two-thirds of the world's cities with a population of more than 2.5 million live in coastal areas, and three-fifths of the world's population live within 60km of the coastal areas. China's coastal areas, which are highly urbanized, densely populated and economically developed, make the coastal zone resources and environment suffer a lot. However, those factors also aggravate the degradation of the ecological environment and limit the space and prospect of sustainable economic development in these regions. So, ecological restoration is urgent for sustainable socio-economic development and harmonious coexistence between humankind and nature. This lecture will discuss the important progress, key problems and possible solutions of the ecological restoration of coastal zones in China based on the research projects undertaken by Prof. Huang.
