From Molecular Assembly and Hybrid Two-Dimensional Materials to the Ultraflexible Optoelectronics
Dr. Xiaomin Xu
Department of Physics, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

About the Speaker
Dr. Xiaomin Xu is an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellow. She obtained B.Sc. from University of Science and Technology of China in 2011 and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2015. Prior to joining Humboldt Universität zu Berlin, she worked at RIKEN, Japan in 2016-2017.

Talk Introduction
Low-cost semiconductors, energy devices, high performance optoelectronics, and packaging will in particular converge as the Internet of Things (IoT) grows. Organic semiconductors and the emergent low dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid materials with inherent flexibility, tunable functionalities, and easy processibility foresee remarkable potentials for the applications. In this talk, we address fundamental questions in designing conjugated molecules and mastering molecular self-assembly on variable surfaces, where the structure-property relationship will be thoroughly reviewed. As one-step closer to the application, we will demonstrate a design of textile-compatible photovoltaics achieving unprecedented flexibility and thermal stability with power conversion efficiency reaching 10%. We will discuss explicitly how the tradeoff between mechanical compliance, efficiency, and stability are overcome with combined strategies based on material and device engineering.
