Combining chemistry with engineering in the development of polymeric materials
Dr. Wing-Fu Lai
About
the Speaker
Wing-Fu Lai is the Overseas High-Caliber Personnel (Level B) in Shenzhen, and was elected as a Chatered Biologist in 2014. He holds Adjunct Assistant Profession ship in Hong Kong, and has published over 30 SCI articles (with 26 first-author). He is a guest editor in Journal of Visualized Experiments, and is authoring one monograph for Elsevier. Dr. Lai’s long-term research interest is to apply both chemical and engineering techniques to fabricate, modify, and engineer polymeric materials for biomedical applications.
Talk
Information
In this talk, he will present the works undertaken by his group on the development of novel polymers for drug and gene delivery. He will also illustrate the use of engineering methods to fine-tune the microstructure of material systems, leading to the generation of tunable multicompartment microgels and compositionally homogeneous core-shell hydrogel microspheres. By integrating synthetic chemistry into materials engineering, he has extended the limitations in materials development, and has increased the tunability and versatility of polymeric materials beyond that reachable by techniques in a single discipline.
