About
the Speaker
Dr. Zhang received Ph.D. from University of Science and Technology of China, working on vortex dynamics in high-temperature superconductors. In 2008, He joined Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics to investigate surface magnetism using spin-polarized scanning tunneling microscopy. Since 2011, He continued his postdoctoral research at Technical University of Munich, Physics Department E20, focusing on surface-templated synthesis of carbon-rich nanoarchitectures.

Information
Using light atoms and molecules instead of heavy elements to fabricate materials and devices could largely release the ever-increasing pressure on natural resources and environment. My research is intended to design and synthesis novel molecule-based nanomaterials, which present comparable or even superior properties compared to their inorganic solid-state counterparts. The fabrication routes are based on bottom-up interfacial supramolecular engineering and on-surface synthesis, aiming towards molecular-level control of targeted architectures. To access the comprehensive information of different properties of synthesized nanomaterials, complementary characterization combining the state-of-the-art experimental techniques of surface science is employed as a powerful approach. In this talk, a few selected directions summarizing my current research activities as well as future plans will be briefly illustrated to demonstrate the possibility to establish a one-to-one correlation between inorganic and organic materials.
