报告摘要:
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS or ESCA) is a versatile tool to investigate chemical reactions on surfaces. At third generation synchrotron radiation facilities, such as BESSY II in Berlin, XPS can be performed in situ with high resolution during adsorption or during heating. From the binding energies of the adsorbate and substrate core levels, detailed quantitative information on the chemical composition, chemical state and adsorption sites can be derived. In this presentation, three examples will be addressed. The first addresses the chemical properties of supported graphene on metal surfaces, including the growth of metal clusters with a small size distribution on lattice-mismatched graphene Moire-layers and corresponding reaction studies. The second example concerns the adsorption and reaction of the liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC) dodecahydro-N-ethylcarbazole, on metal surfaces. Hydrogen storage in LOHCs is a possible future technology to circumvent the challenges in energy storage. In the third example, molecular solar thermal energy storage (MOST) systems will be addressed. The valence isomer pair norbornadiene (NBD)/ quadricyclane (QC) system will be discussed, which holds the potential to be utilized in future energy storage technologies due to its comparably high gravimetric energy storage density, and the release of energy in a catalytic and sustainable cycle.

嘉宾简介:
Hans-Peter Steinrueck did his PhD in physics at TU Graz 1985, was postdoc at Stanford University 1985/86, received his Habilitation at TU München 1992, and became Professor of Physics at Würzburg University in 1993. Since 1998, he holds a chair of Physical Chemistry at University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He is member of the European Academy of Sciences, the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Academia Europaea, Fellow of APS and AAAS, and received the AVS Medard W. Welch Award in the USA in 2017. His research focusses in surface and interface science, from ionic liquids, porphyrins, liquid metals and liquid organic hydrogen carriers to chemically modified graphene. He published more than 350 peer-reviewed papers.
