Civil infrastructure assets (e.g., buildings, bridges, tunnels, rounds and dams) are a nation’s lifeline and are vital for societal and economic growth. One of the major challenges facing the construction industry is to reach net zero by 2050 towards a circular economy and provide cost-effective, sustainable and resilient infrastructure to society. Increasing focus has been placed on finding innovative materials that can fulfil such requirements. This talk will introduce a new type of low-carbon concrete recently developed at UCL through a routine of materials – microstructure – property – performance, which integrates the greenness potential of cement-free geopolymer made with industrial by-products and recycled fibres. It can be used together with lightweight fibre reinforced polymer bars to develop a novel reinforced concrete as a promising alternative to conventional reinforced concrete for structural applications and thus can result in direct benefits to society by extending the lifetime and by reducing the carbon footprint as well as repair and maintenance costs of concrete infrastructure.
嘉宾简介:
张明中,2013年获得荷兰代尔夫特理工大学博士学位,2013-2015年在英国曼彻斯特大学从事博士后研究,现任QS世界大学排名前十的英国伦敦大学学院(UCL)土木工程系副教授、博士生导师,英国高等教育学会会士。其主要研究领域包括:先进土木工程材料及其工程应用、固废资源化利用、混凝土结构耐久性、多尺度计算模拟、纤维增强复合材料与结构等。目前已出版英文专著1部、英文会议论文集1本,在Cement and Concrete Research、Cement and Concrete Composites、Composites Part B、Composite Structures等土木工程材料与结构国际顶级SCI期刊发表学术论文100余篇,论文累计被引4000余次(H指数= 37),连续三年(2020、2021和2022年)入选由美国斯坦福大学发布的全球前2%顶尖科学家榜单。主持英国国家自然基金和牛顿基金等纵向基金项目10余项,受邀担任英国国家自然基金会评专家及荷兰、捷克、土耳其等多个国家自然基金项目评审专家,SCI期刊Journal of Sustainable Cement-based Materials和Frontiers in Materials副主编,获得Elsevier多个SCI期刊杰出审稿人奖,2022年英国菲利普·莱弗休姆奖提名和2023年国际先进材料学会科学家奖。
