The Institute for Advanced Study will organize a summer camp by selecting applications from the 2015 domestic college students. This activity aims to promote the exchanges and cooperation between college students in different universities and encourage young students to do research, also make more students know Shenzhen University(SZU) and the Institute for Advanced Study(IAS), as well as prepare for the graduate enrollment in 2019. The details are as follows:

1.Introduction

(1) Shenzhen Univeraity(Houhai campus and Xili campus)
Shenzhen University(SZU) is located in China's pioneering city of reform and open-up —— Shenzhen. Known as "the Special Economic Zone University, the Window University, the Experimental University", SZU has grown into a multi-disciplinary university hosting over 34,000 students, 3,770 faculty and staff members  since it was founded in 1983. SZU, characterized by its youthful vigor, beautiful campus and rapid growth, offers bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees in a wide range of programs. SZU is committed to building an innovative, high-level and internationally prominent university. SZU enrolled its first students in 1983, and has since rapidly grown into a well-known multi-discipline institution boasting over 34,000 students, including 5,500 postgraduates and over 1,500 international students. Apart from the full-time students, approximately 13,000 students are engaged in various forms of continuing education. SZU maintains a high-caliber teaching staff with top credentials. Seeking to build a faculty with different age groups and experiential backgrounds, SZU built up a teaching faculty of 2,127 teachers, among which 504 are professors and 768 are associate professors, 1 Nobel Prize Winner, 10 Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences or Academy of Engineering, 3 Academician from American Academy of Sciences, Academy of Engineering and Academy of Medical Sciences, 3 National 973 Program Chief Scientist. The university has a full-time administrative staff of over 1,000 who fulfill teaching and researching support tasks. SZU is surrounded by more than 110 listed companies, which provides good opportunities for the students to be hired and employed after graduation. Up to now, about 100 thousand alumni have taken root in Shenzhen. Many of them succeeded in their own fields. Ma Huateng, for example, is one of the outstanding alumni. He graduated in 1993, founded Shenzhen Tencent Computer Systems Co., Ltd., and now is the president, chief executive officer, chairman of the board of the company.
        (2) The Institute for Advanced Study(IAS)
The Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) has been established at Shenzhen University to provide both undergraduate and postgraduate program, focusing on interdisciplinary teaching and research. As a special platform at Shenzhen University, IAS seeks to build a team consisting of experienced professors with international vision and young teachers with great potential; to adopt best-practice management methods used by overseas research universities to build collaborations with world-class universities in Hong Kong and abroad; as well as to create an academic atmosphere and training environment to meet with the international standards with the overall goal of attaining excellence in teaching, research and management. IAS fosters the training of innovative talents, cutting-edge research and hi-tech development in the fundamental and related interdisciplinary fields of marine resources and environment, functional materials, biotechnology, and financial technology. The research outcomes and newly-trained talents will inject some freshness into the hi-tech industries in Shenzhen, particularly emerging industries of strategic importance such as biology, Internet, new energy sources, new materials and next-generation information and communication technology, facilitating the transformation and growth of Shenzhen's economy.
         (3) Time of the Summer Camp
July 16,2018——July 20,2018(Five days)
         (4) Course Content and Schedule
Course content covered the fields of marine resources and environment, functional materials, biotechnology, and financial technology, lectured by several renowned scholars. A series of activities will be arranged for the students, including touring the university campus and the laboratories of the Institute, attending  academic lectures and exchange salon, participating social practices at Shenzhen Mangrove Forest Nature Reserve and Shenzhen Talent Park.

2.Enrollment Targets and Costs
Outstanding undergraduates of 2019 from exam-free universities or prepare to apply for SZU;
As a nonprofit activity, the summer camp will be free for everything, including meals, accommodation, round-trip travel expense, materials;
The cost of personal activities shall be be paid by themselves.
Requirement for the Applicant:
(1) ID card and student ID during the validity period;
(2) Undergraduate Report Card;
(3) Foreign language level materials;
(4) Other materials that can prove the applicant's qualifications;
(5) Registration form for the summer camp.

         3.Consultation and Application Method
The project is assisted by the Graduate School of Shenzhen University and the Institute of Advanced Study(IAS) is responsible for specific work.

(1) Online Application
The applicant shall log in the summer camp registration system of shenzhen university, fill in the personal application form and send to IAS email(ias@szu.edu.cn). Please use "2018 Summer Camp" named for the document.

(2) Paper Material Submission
After receiving the application, IAS will select the application, and inform the admission results by email and SMS in July. The selected applicants shall pay a registration fee of 200 yuan and submit the application form and other materials and the fee would be ruturned after registering.
Selected applicants would enjoy the following preferential policies:
The selected applicants who obtain the eexam-free qualifications at their universities can be directly admitted to IAS with special scholarships in 2019.
The selected applicants who don't obtain the exam-free qualification at their universities but apply for IAS and their preliminary examination results reach the standards,they will enter the second examination and be admitted in priority after passingthe physical examination.
