At 6 p.m. on July 19, 2018, a farewell ceremony of the 1st summer camp was successfully held by the Institute for Advanced Study at L1-403, Science and Engineering Building. 27 selected college students from domestic famous universities, such as Ocean University of China, South China Normal University, Guizhou University, Inner Mongolia University and Southern Medical University attended the four-day program to know more about the Institute and made deep friendship with each.

In the four-day camp, a series of activities were arranged for the students, including touring the university campus and the laboratories of the Institute, attending academic lectures and exchange salon, participating social practices at Shenzhen Mangrove Forest Nature Reserve and Shenzhen Talent Park.

Over ten experts and scholars from different research fields were invited to give lectures during the summer camp. The lectures covered the fields of marine resources and environment, functional materials, biotechnology, and financial technology, so that the students could know the features of the Institute and research characteristics. During exchange salon, the students knew the excellent faculty and also more clarified their future research directions through the friendly exchanges between experts and scholars.

In order to make the students know more about Shenzhen University, the Institute for Advanced Study organized the students to visit the campus and the laboratories of the Institute. The students spoke highly of the beautiful campus, convenient living facilities and advanced experimental equipments and kept taking photos.

Besides, the Institute for Advanced Study arranged some social practices at Shenzhen Mangrove Forest Nature Reserve and Shenzhen Talent Park to make the students experience the charm of Shenzhen.

Finally, at the end of the ceremony, Li Meng, the assistant dean of the Institute for Advanced Study and Xiong Hai, the research scientist, awarded the students certificates, and encourage them to pursue their dreams.

Since the registration, the Institute for Advanced Study has received hundreds of applications from the 2015 domestic college students. Finally, 27 outstanding students were selected to participate in the first summer camp. This activity aims to promote the exchanges and cooperation between college students in different universities and encourage young students to do research, also make more students know Shenzhen University(SZU) and the Institute for Advanced Study(IAS), as well as prepare for the graduate enrollment in 2019.
