On the afternoon of September 3, 2018, IAS grandly hosted an opening ceremony for freshmen of 2018 at No.3 Lecture Hall of Technology Building at Shenzhen University. The guests present were Prof. Steven Feng Chen, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study, Prof. Kai Zhang, Dean of Shenzhen Audencia Business School, Prof. Meng Li and Dr. Yang Wei, Assistant Dean of the Insitute for Advanced Study. The faculty and the new students of IAS attended the ceremony.

The ceremony started along with the national anthem.

First, Dr.Wei introduced the leaders and guests present and expressed her gratitude on behalf of all the teachers and students of the Institute for Advanced Studies for their coming and then introduced the enrollment situation of the class of 2018.

Next, Yining Ma, the undergraduate student representative of the freshmen, gave a speech. She expressed that all the students of 2018 would continue to study hard to become excellent students of IAS.

Subsequently, graduate student representative Heming Fu also shared her feelings. She gave valuable advice to the freshmen with her expericence and expressed her willing to seek and pursue her dream.

Finally, Prof. Chen delivered a speech. He firstly extended his congratulations and welcomed the new students and then gave four suggestions to the students: adjusting attitudes to adapt new life, learning self-discipline, learning to learn and thinking independently. Prof. Chen also expressed his expect to the freshmen.

After the ceremony, all the guests and the students took a group photo.
