The Lecture 5 of Distinguished Scholars Lecturing Program Held

2018-11-22

The Lecture5 of Distinguished Scholars Lecturing Program was held at 15:30on November 22 at Conference Room 103 of Office Building. The lecture’s themewas “From Homonuclear Metal String Complexes to Heteronuclear Metal StringComplexes” by Prof.Shie-ming Peng.Teachers and students from IAS attended the lecture.

Prof. Peng is now thefellow of Academia Sinica andthe professor doctoralsupervisorof National TaiwanUniversity.  He began by explaining “Homonuclear Metal String Complexes”.He noted that the study of metal string complexes with 1-D transition metalframeworks began in the early 1990s and since these complexes provide greatinsight into multiple metal-metal bonds, and may have potential applications asmolecular wires, this field of research has grown in the past 20 years. Thesemolecules may be of great interest in studying the nature of heterometallicelectronic effects and molecular electronic applications. In the lecture, Prof.Peng introduced the development of this field and summarized some importantresults in the newly designed heteronuclear metal string complexes (HMSCs).What is more, Prof. Peng had discussion with the teachers and students aboutthe lecture.

Thislecture improved students’ comprehension of HomonuclearMetal String Complexes, and inspired their interest in academicresearch.
