Invited by Professor Meng Li from the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) of Shenzhen University, Professor Yongxin Li from Hong Kong University visited the Institute for Advanced Study and delivered an academic lecture in the conference room on November 23, 2019. The lecture was hosted by Professor Meng Li. Some teachers and students of the IAS also participated in the lecture.
At 15: 30 p.m., professor Yongxin Li delivered a report entitled genomics-guided discovery of new antibiotics killing superbug in conference room 103, Huiyuan Building, Shenzhen university. The report mainly introduces the establishment of a guiding discovery method that aims to find natural products with chemical novelty and biological importance through the combination of big data genome mining, metabonomics, and bioassay. A new mechanism based on the hydrolytic cleavage of D-specific peptidases has also been proven to be resistant to non-ribosomal peptide antibiotics. This discovery not only provides a potential early indicator of antibiotic resistance to peptide antibiotics but also provides guidance for the design of new drugs to deal with super bacteria. After the lecture, Professor Yongxin Li actively interacted with the teachers and students, answered questions patiently and conducted in-depth discussions with them.
Speaker Introduction:
Professor Yongxin Li is currently an assistant professor and Ph.D. supervisor at Hong Kong University. His research interest: use big data, intelligent analysis, and metagenomic mining technology to find the potential of active natural products in marine microbial aggregation, and use synthetic biological strategies to discover the biological manufacturing of important active and natural products of non-cultivable microorganisms. Up to now, he has published 25 SCI papers in international journals such as natural chemical biology.
