The COFCO Group’s Seminar Feeding the World and Healthy China: Food and Nutrition’s Intelligence Information Technology was held in the COFCO Research & Develop Center at Shenzhen on November 16, 2019. It was hosted by the COFCO and China Soft Science Research Association and was undertook by the COFCO Research Institute of Nutrition and Health, Joy City Holding Company and Zhuhai (Hengqin) Food Safety Institute. More than ten academicians and experts were invited to make project reports focusing on three themes: Food, Nutrition and Safety, New Technology and Food, and Food and Healthy Life. Dean Steven F. Chen was Invited to Attend the seminar and gave a keynote talk.

Dean Steven F. Chen made a speech entitled obstacles and technical countermeasures in the development of the nutritional and health food industry under the background of great health, in which he summarized the development process of health food and the obstacles of the current industrial development. He also pointed out in the report that the current health food industry should concentrate on the basic research and technological innovation, combing the functional components in the health food and improving the method of functional evaluation, so thus to accurately reflect its health function to the human body. Meanwhile, new raw materials with health care functions should be developed, which can promote industrial innovation. Moreover, experts ought to improve the technical methods of detection of prohibited ingredients and provide more accurate and convenient methods for regulatory authorities.

This seminar was highly supported by the People’s Government of Guangdong Province and the People’s Government of Shenzhen City. Weizhong Qin, deputy governor of Guangdong Province, made a speech on the prospect of the business environment of Guangdong Province and the cooperation between Guangdong’s food and nutrition health industry and COFCO group. Min Huang, deputy mayor of Shenzhen, said that as a megacity with a population of more than 22 million, Shenzhen could strengthen its cooperation with COFCO in food safety, nutrition and health, and intelligent manufacturing area, in order to jointly promote the construction of a pioneering demonstration pilot zone for socialism with Chinese characteristics.
