The Institute for Advanced Study(IAS) held a welcome ceremony for the freshmen of 2018 on October 21st at International Conference Hall, Shenzhen University. Attending the ceremony were Professor Steven F. Chen, the Dean of IAS, Dr. Yang Wei, the Assistant Dean of IAS, faculty members, and students from IAS.

At the beginning of the ceremony, Prof. Chen noted in his welcome address that he first affirmed the efforts of the student union of IAS for the welcome ceremony and welcomed the freshmen of 2018, and he also hoped that the students could follow their hearts to pursue their dreams, adopt a very down-to-earth attitude, and develop a correct outlook on life and values.

The ceremony got off to a big start with the band performance, showed by sophomores and freshmen of IAS. Next, the dancing show "Hold it against me & I'm so cute" brought by several freshmen showed the enthusiasm and vitality of young people. The singing, solo, rap and magic continually won the warm applause of the students and teachers present. In the comedy show "where is the thief", the humorous performance of the students made the audience laugh. Prof. Chen showed up as a surprise at the end of the ceremony and sang three songs that made the ceremony reach the climax.

The ceremony successfully came to an end, which also showed the youthful energy of the students and group cohesiveness of IAS.
