In order to enrich the undergraduate students' off class life and improve their comprehensive qualities, 44 freshmen and 4 teachers from the science and engineering innovation and experiment class of the Institute for Advanced Study at Shenzhen University held the first quality-developed activity in Dapeng District from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, 2019.
On Saturday morning, students gathered at SZU and went to the Xintiandi training base by coach. After arriving, coach Liu showed his warmest welcome to the students and teachers and let the students play some ice-breaking games. Students became relaxed and enjoyed the game time.
At noon, students needed to cook the meals by themselves which meant that they needed to chop the wood, make a fire, cook the rice and make the dishes in groups. Some of them haven't cooked the meals before and didn't know what to do. Others had a richer experience with cooking so they started to divide the work and managed to finish cooking. Finally, the students made about ten delicious dishes together and tasted the food happily.
After a short break, the group competition was coming. The students were divided into four groups and they should design their team names and flags. During the competition, students completed four interesting tasks and realized that only when all team members work together, can they complete the task and win in the game.
The other day, teachers took students to visit the ancient city of Dapeng to learn the local history. As an important coastal which was used to defense military barracks in Ming and Qing Dynasties, Dapeng's old city played an important role in the struggle against pirates in ancient times and against British invasion in the Opium War. Students had a visit to two general's offices, with the local guide, knowing the stories of the generals Liu Qilong and Lai En' jue. The students were all deeply moved by the general Lai, a brave general who defended the enemy and protected the local people.
The comprehensive quality development activity came to an end and students said the activity was interesting and meaningful because it not only provided an opportunity for them to know each other better but also let them know the importance of teamwork.
