Quantum Plasmonics in Complex Systems

Dr. Xiaoguang Li

Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences

About the Speaker

Dr. Xiaoguang Li currently is an assistant researcher at Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He received B.S. (2004) from University of Science and Technology of China and Ph.D. (2011) from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. His current research focuses on the plasmonics in complex systems.

Talk Introduction

Plasmon describes the collective excitation of the conduction electrons in metals. Recently, a rapidly expanding field is to exploit the novel aspects of plasmon to trap light with wavelengths much larger than the nanoscale for a wide range of applications, regarding as plasmonics. This development stems from the fact that the properties of plasmons sensitively depend on the size, shape, and dielectric environment of the metal nanostructures, rendering plasmonics immense application potentials in surface-enhanced spectroscopies, biological and chemical sensing, nanolithography, solar cells, etc. In this talk, the speaker will introduce some intriguing developments in plasmonics, and also present several recent works, showing that how we can control plasmons and how we can control the interaction between a plasmon and other excitations in a complex system.
