At 2:30 pm on October 12nd, the 1st lecture of Distinguished Scholars Lecturing Program was held at Room L3-306 of Science and Engineering Building. Those in attendance included Prof. Meng li, the Assiatant Dean of IAS, Reseach Scientist Ke Pan and Hai Xiong and students of IAS.

This lecture was themed ‘Ecological restoration of coastal zone’ by Prof. Lingfeng Huang, who is currently serving at Xiamen University, as professor of School of environment and ecology and director of the Department of ecology and environment. Prof. Huang discussed the important progress, key problems and possible solutions of the ecological restoration of coastal zones in China based on the research projects undertaken by him. Firstly, Prof. Huang introduced the situation of the coastal zone, and then pointed out that China's coastal areas, which are highly urbanized, densely populated and economically developed, make the coastal zone resources and environment suffer a lot. However, those factors also aggravate the degradation of the ecological environment and limit the space and prospect of sustainable economic development in these regions. So, Prof. Huang believed that ecological restoration was urgent for sustainable socio-economic development and harmonious coexistence between humankind and nature. Prof. Huang finally answered the questions from the teachers and students.

The lecture lasted for two hours and ended at 4:30 pm. As the first lecture of Distinguished Scholars Lecturing Program, this lecture was of great significance for later lectures.
