Title: How to choose your research direction?

Speaker: Associate Professor Lei Wu (National Specially Invited Expert (Youth), from Southern University of Science and Technology)

Abstract:

This report mainly describes the process of Lei Wu's changing his research directions.

Lei Wu is an associate professor at Southern University of Science and Technology. He got his bachelor's and master's degrees in Physics from Zhejiang Normal University and got a Ph.D. in fluid mechanics from Strathclyde University, UK. He used to be a postdoctoral researcher, chancellor fellow, lecturer and senior lecturer at Strathclyde University in the UK from 2013 to 2019. Before studying for the Ph.D. degree, he mainly did the research in nonlinear physics and published more than 20 papers, in which he published more than 10 papers in Physical Review A and 2 papers in the New Journal of Physics.  

After starting his Ph.D. study, he started to study computational fluid dynamics and lean gas dynamics. Through the modeling of gas dynamics and the development of efficient and accurate numerical simulation methods, he tried to understand the non-equilibrium transport under the limit of gas, which can be widely applicated in the areas such as the aerospace field. He has published more than 60 SCI papers in relevant authoritative international journals, including nearly 20 published papers in the Journal of Computational Physics and Journal of Fluid Mechanics. In 2019, he was selected to be one of the National Specially Invited Experts (Youth). In addition, he is currently a member of the editorial board of Advances in Aerodynamics and is also a reviewer for nearly 40 international journals including Nature, JCP, JFM.
