MATHEMATICS SEMINAR

Title: Two-dimensional freak wave problem and deep learning methods

Speaker: Professor Jiefang Zhang from the Communication University of Zhejiang

Abstract:

A freak wave is a type of wave packet in the global domain of time and space. The theoretical and experimental research of freak waves has made significant progress in the fields of water wave dynamics, nonlinear optics, Bose-Einstein condensates, superfluids, plasma physics, capillary waves, etc. It also plays important roles in the compression of light pulses and the manipulation of Bose-Einstein condensates.

After more than ten years of research, the one-dimensional freak wave problem has very rich results, but the two-dimensional freak wave problem is still an open question. This report will propose new ideas, hoping to find ways in analytical solutions and numerical simulations, and obtain applications in specific physical models to further explore the impact of space-time parameters on their dynamic evolution. Deep learning techniques have been applied to solve hundreds of practical problems, and many cases have proven that deep learning can make work better than before. The application of deep learning in solving partial differential equations has made progress, and it is worth exploring to use deep learning to deal with nonlinear wave problems.
