1. Introduction to the discipline
Complex Systems and Data Science is based on big data science methods such as data standardization, data mining, and data visualization and supported by a new generation of information technology such as mathematical modeling, scientific computing, big data analysis, and artificial intelligence. It’s an interdiscipline which is full of related theories, techniques, and methods for complex systems such as, material genomes, soft matter systems, life and health, oceans, and the environment. Its setup helps scientific workers extract and analyze scientific data of large-capacity and complex sources. The visualization technology of big data can help researchers intuitively understand and interpret research content.
This subject is supported by mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, relying on scientific computing, big data, and artificial intelligence as technical support and the latest research achievements in Mathematics, Statistics, Biomedicine, Soft Matter Science, Physical Materials, Life and Health, Marine and Environment, focusing on solving the complex disciplinary challenges in the 21st century.

7. Degree Thesis
Graduate students will qualify for the degree (graduation) thesis through the mid-term assessment.
(1) The dissertation is an important part of postgraduate education, and it also reflects the quality and level of graduate education. Undergraduate graduate students should determine their research under the guidance of their tutors and select the topic selection of dissertation from the basic research topic or the important application topic based on the research projects undertaken by the tutors.
(2) The duration of dissertation work is not less than one year. The graduate degree (graduation) thesis should be completed independently under the guidance of the tutor. See the writing requirements of the thesis in Shenzhen University Master Postgraduate's Degree Thesis Detailed Codes. The academic norm of academic degree (graduation) thesis is committed by the graduate student, and the tutor is responsible for it. The original experimental records, spectrogram and analysis result should be standardized and kept by the research groups.
(3) Graduate students should complete the midterm examination of the paper at the end of the fourth semester, and make a written paper report, which is reviewed by the postgraduate guidance group. If the student doesn’t finish as the requirement, he/she will be warned and submitted to the superior management department until the graduation postponement.
(4) Complete the tasks stipulated in this plan on time. At least 1 academic papers are published in the subject field with the first author and the first signature unit ("Shenzhen University") or the supervisor is the first author and the student as the second. No infringement of the copyright of others; no publication of articles, works and translations with serious scientific errors.
(5) The review and defense process of the thesis shall be implemented according to the procedures stipulated in the relevant documents of the graduate school. If the student fails in the defense, he/she should apply again after 6 months. The degree applications and awards shall be handled with reference to the Provisional Implementation of Degrees Regulation of the People's Republic of China and the Implementation Measures of Degree Regulations of Shenzhen University and other relevant documents.
