1. Introduction to the Discipline
Materials Science and Engineering mainlystudies the composition, structure, preparation or synthesis, and properties ofmaterials. It is devoted to the optimization of material properties, processoptimization, development of new materials, and rational application ofmaterials.
2. Introduction to Research Direction
(1) Advanced Functional Materials:
Main research areas include: thedevelopment of new methods and technologies for the preparation of functionalmaterials, to study their special physical and chemical properties andbiomedical applications; the study of functional electronic materials anddevices; optical materials; photoelectric composite functional materials;advanced structures and interface materials; intelligent medical materials; simulation and material genomes; and the development of cross disciplinarydisciplines such as materials science, nanoscience and chemical biology. This direction involves both basic and applied research.
(2) Biomedical Materials:
Based on a good understanding of therelationship between structure and function under normal and pathologicalconditions, biological substitutes for the function and morphology of varioustissues or organs after injury are studied and developed. Combining withfunctional cells and signal factors, new biological materials are used andengineering and biological manufacturing methods are selected to producefunctional biological tissues or organs, or biological systems for research. Particularfocus is placed on the mechanism of hemostasis, adhesion and repair, nerverepair mechanisms and the interaction between biomimetic materials and woundsites.
(3) Nanocomposites
The main research focus is on compoundsystems that are formed by uniformly dispersing one particulate phasethroughout another continous phase via an appropriate preparation method. Thecontinuous phase may consist of resins consisting of water and organic solvent, rubber, ceramics, and metals; and the dispersed phase may comprise micro- ornano-scale metals, semiconductors, rigid particles, fibers, or carbonnanotubes. Attention is paid to both basic and applied research topics.
3. Credit Setting:

7. Degree Thesis
Graduate students will qualify for thedegree (graduation) thesis through the mid-term assessment.
(1) The dissertation is an important part ofpostgraduate education, and it also reflects the quality and level of graduateeducation. Undergraduate graduate students should determine their researchunder the guidance of their tutors and select the topic selection ofdissertation from the basic research topic or the important application topicbased on the research projects undertaken by the tutors.
(2) The duration of dissertation work is notless than one year. The graduate degree (graduation) thesis should be completedindependently under the guidance of the tutor. See the writing requirements ofthe thesis in Shenzhen University Master Postgraduate's Degree Thesis DetailedCodes. The academic norm of academic degree (graduation) thesis is committed bythe graduate student, and the tutor is responsible for it. The originalexperimental records, spectrogram and analysis result should be standardizedand kept by the research groups.
(3) Graduate students should complete the midtermexamination of the paper at the end of the fourth semester, and make a writtenpaper report, which is reviewed by the postgraduate guidance group. If thestudent doesn’t finish as the requirement, he/she will be warned and submittedto the superior management department until the graduation postponement.
(4) Complete the tasks stipulated in this planon time. At least 1 academic papers are published in the subject field with thefirst author and the first signature unit ("Shenzhen University")orthe supervisor is the first author and the student as the second. Noinfringement of the copyright of others; no publication of articles, works andtranslations with serious scientific errors.
(5) The review and defense process of thethesis shall be implemented according to the procedures stipulated in therelevant documents of the graduate school. If the student fails in the defense,he/she should apply again after 6 months. The degree applications and awardsshall be handled with reference to the Provisional Implementation of DegreesRegulation of the People's Republic of China and the Implementation Measures ofDegree Regulations of Shenzhen University and other relevant documents.
