About the Speaker
Dr. Yan received his PhD degree in engineering at University of Wollongong, Australia in 2017. He currently holds a position as a JSPS fellow at University of Tokyo. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal papers. His research interests include microfluidic biotechnology, plasmonic sensors and portable biodevices.
Talk Introduction
Microfluidics exploits the properties of fluids trapped in submillimetre-scale spaces -the physics behind inkjet printing, DNA microarrays, lab-on-a-chip chemistry and much else - to useful practical effect. In the past decade microfluidics-enabled biomedical devices have shown considerable promise in diagnostics and primary research in the biological sciences. However, existing platforms are limited in throughput, efficiency and flexibility, which can be addressed by my approaches based on the development of micro- and nano-scale devices. In this talk, I will first discuss the development of hybrid microfluidic devices for advanced on-chip cell manipulation. To boost the utility of microfluidic devices, portable microdevices are developed for cell sorting and molecule detection. Next, I will describe the on-chip fabrication of silver nanoparticles as plasmonic biosensors. Finally, I will talk about the imaging flow cytometry coupled with artificial intelligence for cell classification and disease detection..
