In order to adapt to the development of interdisciplinary subjects and meet the needs of interdisciplinary innovative talents training in various colleges and universities, the Institute for Advanced Study proposed to establish an interdiscipline evaluation sub-committee to handle affairs in students trainning. After discussion by the Presidents' Meeting and the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shenzhen University, the meeting agreed to establish the Interdiscipline Evaluation Sub-committee of the Institute for Advanced Study. The members of the committee include Feng Chen, Zhibing Chen, Lei Wang, Nan Wang, Jianqiang Li, Hui Li, Meng Li , Kai Zhang and Yongxiang Gao.
At 9:00 am on June 8, 2018, the Institute for Advanced Study of Shenzhen University held the first Interdiscipline Evaluation Sub-committee Meeting in Room 628 of the Office Building after its establishment. Those were attending the meeting, including Prof. Steven F. Chen, Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study of Shenzhen University, Prof. Zhibing Chen, Dean of College of Mathematics and Statistics of Shenzhen University, Prof. Kai Zhang, Dean of School of Business of Shenzhen University, Prof. Jianqiang Li, Vice Dean of College of Computer Science and Software Engineering of Shenzhen University, Prof. Hui Li, Vice Dean of College of Life and Oceangraphy of Shenzhen University, Prof. Nan Wang, Vice Dean of the College of Physics and Energy of Shenzhen University, and Prof. Meng Li and Dr. Yang Wei, Assistant Dean of the Institute for Advanced Study of Shenzhen University.
The Meeting
Prof. Feng Chen expressed his gratitude to the members for their support to the work of the Interdiscipline Evaluation Sub-committee. Subsequently, Dr. Yang Wei introduced the basic situation of the first graduates of the 2014 Innovation Class in Science and Engineering (ICSE), the undergraduate training program and the honor course, whcih got the affirmation from the committees. The Committee also said it would play its role to cooperate with the Institute to explore the model of innovative talents of IAS and promote the quality of undergraduate education and the development of top university of Shenzhen University.
According to the relevant provisions of Shenzhen University Degree Regulations Implementation Method, the participating members reviewed the qualifications of the first graduate degree of the ICSE, and voted for the degree application in secret ballot. The meeting decided to grant 44 students to the bachelor's degree and reported to the university's degree evaluation committee for consideration.
The meeitng also reviewed the qualifications for the honours bachelor's degree according to the Honorary Bachelor Degree of Shenzhen University. The selection method is designed to collect high quality teaching resources to encourage and cultivate innovative talents, and create a good academic atmosphere. Finally, the meeting decided to grant 4 students to the honorary bachelor degrees and reported to the university's degree evaluation committee for consideration.
The establishment of the committee is helpful for Shenzhen University to explore the methods of cultivating interdisciplinary talents, meet the needs of the training of interdisciplinary innovative talents, which would further promote the development of cross disciplines and create the the characteristic education of Shenzhen University.
